About Barrett

Barrett Kern was born in Pawtucket, RI in 1986. He attended high school at Saint Raphael Academy where he began his journey to become an artist. Upon his graduation from high school, he received an award in Fine Arts for his advanced skill in a plethora of artistic modalities. Barrett further pursued his dream of becoming an artist by receiving a more formal training in the arts at Rhode Island College. During this training he was accepted into the B.F.A program with a concentration in sculpture. Over the following three years he created large abstract steel sculptures with wood as an added element. He has also worked on refining his own visual and conceptual vocabulary, which has subsequently emerged through his focus on the points of intersection between architecture, sculpture, and spatial analysis. Barrett is a winner of multiple Talent Awards at Rhode Island College for his innovative sculpture designs. He is a member at Attleboro Arts Museum and New England Sculptors Association. In the past year, he has displayed his sculptures in numerous galleries including a national juried show (Seeing Double) and a Member’s Exhibition at Attleboro Arts Museum in Attelboro, M.A. Barrett has also displayed his artwork at a local juried show (Line. Form. Function.) at Imago Gallery in Warren, R.I. Other galleries include, Two Point Gallery in Portland, ME and Bannister Gallery in Providence, RI.

Currently, Barrett resides in Providence, RI where he continues to create sculptures and further immerse himself into his innovative masterpieces. He is in the process of creating a more functional series of pieces, which consists of furniture that incorporates elements of his previously constructed abstract designs.
